It all began in 1761, when Marie Grosholtz—later known as Madame Tussaud—was born in Strasbourg, France. She learned the art of wax modeling from Dr. Philippe Curtius and went on to create death masks during the French Revolution, including those of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. In 1802, she brought her wax exhibition to the UK, eventually establishing a permanent home in London in 1835.
Since then, Madame Tussauds has grown into a global phenomenon, with attractions across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America—including Orlando, which opened in 2015.
From royalty and revolution to red carpets and superheroes, Madame Tussauds continues to evolve while honoring its rich legacy of artistry and curiosity.
